Enterprising villages 2020

Rural Development Plan 2014 - 2020 for LAG JyväsRiihi area

LAG JyväsRiihi operates in the middle of the Central Finland region. The operating range covers the rural surroundings of the region's capital Jyväskylä: rural areas of the City of Jyväskylä, Municipalities of Laukaa, Muurame and Uurainen.

The area is a home to over half of the region's population. At the end of year 2012, the surface area of LAG JyväsRiihi was 2,300 km² and it was home to 165,000 people, some 56,000 of whom live in the countryside.

The operating area of the LAG JyväsRiihi comprises over 50 very active rural villages, many of which have new young residents. It is vital for the development of the villages to engage new residents in shared activities. The area is experiencing strong growth and is the regional centre for education and business activities. The rural area hosts a lot of diverse and nimble small businesses that operate in the multiform small-scale industries and services such as care, well-being and tourism services in particular, and some traditional agriculture and forestry.
